My aim is to capture on a two-dimensional surface the unique three-dimensional beauty & atmosphere of our natural world. This involves the study of the life-cycles and habitats of species, the best places & times of year to see them, as well as contact with like-minded people within the organisations that bear responsibility for the management, conservation, and protection of our natural environment. All natural history provides inspiration, however the majority of my artwork focused on wildflowers, particularly orchids, in their natural habitats.
Long distance travelling is involved within Britain and Ireland to find the species for illustration. On site, colour notes are taken, backed up by digital photographs. These are the necessary support for the final work of illustration in the studio. The subjects have been drawn out meticulously, and painted using German Schmincke Horodam watercolours and 'da Vinci' sable brushes, on Italian Fabriano 5 / 300 HP (hot-press) mould-made fine art paper.
High quality limited edition Giclée prints of my paintings are available. In-house printing now gives me full control of the reproduction process, ensuring the highest quality professional fine art prints. I hope that through publications and sales, my artwork brings pleasure to all who view it, and that indirectly wildlife conservation will benefit from an increased awareness of and respect for the natural environment.
